About The Wine
The two wines designated under the Leonardo Erazo label are the equivalent of Erazo's 'Grand Cru' wines.
These are the wines that best showcase the incredible unique and ancinet terroir that this pocket of Chile is home to. These are the oldest vines, planted in the best spot, treated with the utmost care. Here's his powerful ancient-vine Pais.
The vines for this cuveé were planted in the 1860s. They are gnarled, dry-grown, incredibly low-yielding and produce Leonardo's most intense expression of the variety.
It's chiseled, statuesque, slightly wild and imbued with a sense of liquid minerality. Brilliant now but will be fascinating to taste with some bottle age.
About A Los Viñateros Bravos
A Los Viñateros Bravos translates to 'To The Brave Vignerons', a tip of the cap to the valiant grape-growers who have kept the Chilean wine scene thriving for almost five centuries.
Leonardo Erazo is one of the leading figures in the avant-garde of Chilean wine. In 2019, he was named in the Top 10 Best Winemakers of South America by Decanter magazine. With degrees in both in Agronomy and Enology, Leonardo combines modern precision and cleanliness with ancient winemaking techniques to get the very best out of his dry-grown vineyards in the Itata Valley.
This man is obsessed with the unique soils of Chile. He believes that by making wine with minimal intervention, that the true character of each site - with all its smoky, crushed-rock minerality, is able to shine through.
