About The Wine
The Maggiorina is built as an earlier drinking expression of the Boca region.
It's a juicy, fresh red blend comprised of equal portions Nebbiolo and Croatina with around 10% of the blend made up with a fruit salad of other local varieties, both red and white.
An invigorating, energised red wine is the final result. It has a crunch of fresh acidity and super fine tannin, it shows red and blue fruits with a little bit of a wild streak.
It's a fascinating red that gives you a great introduction to this top Italian producer.
About Le Piane
Le Piane was born out of a purchase of the historic cellar and vineyard of Antonio Cerri by vinologist Alexander Trolf and the vintner Christoph Künzli in 1998.
After Trolf tragically passed away in a car accident before the full project was realised, Künzli has made it his mission to turn the spotlight back on this forgotten region on the far eastern side of Piemonte, revitalising vineyards and resurrecting traditional blends and methods of production. The wines have gained quite the reputation over the intervening years.
Robert Parker's Wine Advocate dubbed Le Piane, "some of the finest wines you will find in Alto Piemonte. This high-performing winery is a true treasure not only for Piedmont but for Italian wine in general." They are a hidden gem of Italian wine that is experiencing a second life. Very exciting stuff.
