About The Wine
Gamay from Beaujolais x Jura Chardonnay, though not a combination that one can conjure easily, when in the hands of Jean-Francois the end result is something so sublime, that you couldn’t imagine it wasn’t a thing.
So light, and bright, bursting with a cornucopia of red flavours, apples, cherries, sweet chewy red gummies. It’s just so pure and alive, with both varieties shing with individual characteristics, yet so harmoniously intertwines that you can’t tell where one ends and the other begins.
La Croix Des Batailles is so otherworldly, there are no adjectives that could do it justice, and most likely there are no other hands who could make this with such grace and style.
About Jean-Francois Ganevat
With deep roots in the region, it’s almost a slight surprise to discover that that the Ganevat family were equal parts grape growers and cattle farmers until the mid-1970’s when family’s attention turned full time to winemaking.
And really, it was only in 1998 when he returned to the family estate that the legend began to grow. Over the last 20+ years however he has become an icon and rockstar of the wine world, leading a wave of new-age winemaking, and created such an insane demand for the wines of the Jura.
Farming biodynamically across his 13ha of vines, Jean-Francois also sources fruit from friends and growers across the country for his Vin de France wines. While he releases over 30 different wines each year, the quantities are minute, which makes the tiny annual allocation to Australia one of the most fought over by retailers and restauranteurs alike.
