About The Wine
The Wild Gruner is part of Hugh Guthrie's range of 'concept' wines. This range is about pushing certain varieties to their limits and exploring the full range of flavours and textures that can be created with creative winemaking.
It's is a very interesting look at this Austrian variety. It takes the classic varietal notes of floral tones and white pepper to the next level.
After being destemmed and crushed, the fruit was fermented in old puncheons where it sat on solids for several months prior to bottling. Hugh is going for added grip and texture in this often neutral variety and this is a very successful example of just that.
About Guthrie Wines
Hugh Guthrie is making some very smart wines from the Adelaide Hills.
On one hand he offers excellent value classic styles of Chardonnay, Syrah and the like and on the other he gets a little experimental with some of the new European varieties becoming more and more popular.
Hugh delivers on both fronts, with his lo-fi winemaking delivering delicious results at truly great prices.
