About The Wine

Barnaby Flanders knows good Pinot Noir.

He has developed an impressive reputation for producing top quality Pinot’s from Mornington and his 2019s are absolutely no exception. This wine is always scarcely available, and the Merricks Pinot is typically the first to sell out.

It’s full bodied for a Mornington Pinot but maintains amazing finesse and elegance at the same time. A muscular Pinot of indisputable quality.

Loads of unique personality, class and complexity paired with great drinkability.

A great wine from one of the gems of the Peninsula.

About Garagiste

Garagiste is the brainchild of Barnaby Flanders.

After leaving Allies Wines in 2003 he embarked on a mission to produce small batch premium Pinot Noir and Chardonnay under his own label in his beloved Mornington Peninsula.

Barney loves the sub-regionality to be exploited in Mornington Peninsula, the slight alterations in aspect and soil profile within this small wine producing region provide him with the scaffolding around which he builds his stunning harem of small batch wines.

They are only ever made in small quantities so time is of the essence if you want to explore the world of Garagiste.

From The Producer

Sourced from the Merricks Grove vineyard, the fruit for this wine was hand-sorted twice and fermented in two ways: one fermenter of whole berries and another of 100% whole bunches. These two portions were then blended together. Both fermentations were natural with a reasonably long maceration and yet gentle extraction--light pump-overs and a few gentle plunges. The wine matured in 300-litre hogsheads (roughly 20% new, François Frères) and spent eleven months on lees before bottling, unfiltered.

A little twiggy, black cherry, truffles and game. There's a purple fruit and flower lift. Beautiful aromas. Pristine fruit quality, clean, easy flow, with a mineral spine. Perfectly defined tannins. Broad shoulders and a statuesque physique. Top class Mornington Pinot. - Different Drop Wine Team

"All the Garagiste wines are good. This is a bit better than that. It’s a standout release. Power, complexity and length. Graphite, black cherry, stewed strawberries and sweet, clovey spice. Woodsmoke. Walnuts. A strong savoury side without it being twiggy or necessarily bitter, though there’s a pleasant suggestion of the latter. It’s the push through the finish that really elevates it. Super." - Campbell Mattinson (The Wine Front)
