About the Wine
This delicious look at Assyrtiko from Gaia comes from a combination of three vineyards, all with old vines almost 80 years old.
These vines don't produce a lot of fruit, but what does appear are full of character and concentrated flavour, soaking up the minerality from the volcanic soils they sit atop.
It's well balanced, with a delicious zippy line of acidity mingling with honey aromatics and mouth-watering citrus flavour. Yia mas!
About Gaia
Gaia Wines was founded in 1994 by Yiannis Paraskevopoulos, and Leon Karatsalos both of whom had gained their education and experience in France and Austria.
They are a great example of the globalised nature of the wine industry, traveling and of gaining knowledge and experience. With Greece home to a truly ancient society, that traversed the known world, these modern winemakers share that same sense of intellectual curiosity.
With vineyards and wineries in 2 distinct regions; Santorini and Nemea, Yiannis and Leon aim for the perfect harmony between terroir and climate in the production of their indigenous varietal wines; Assyritiko, and Agiorgitiko.
To them, these are the varietals that are Greece, and drive their mission to explore the boundaries of these grapes, making them well-known across the globe.
