About The Wine
Cornelissen only makes a couple of whites, but they are fascinating, rich, salty, uncompromising wines.
This is a blend of Grecanico and Carricante, with four days of skin contact, and no additions. It is beautifully pure for a natural wine, and while rich, almost oily, there is drive and persistence to the gingery, herbal and stonefruit flavours.
Munjebel is a local descriptor for Mount Etna.
About Frank Cornelissen
The Cornelissen estate was established in 2001, when Etna as a wine region was still relatively undiscovered. The vineyards are located on the northern slopes of the active volcano Etna, an area considered today to be Etna’s top spot for single-vineyard (contrada) red wines - the Sicilian version of the Cote de Nuits, or Barolo.
There are now 22 hectares of vines across a range of indigenous varieties, and everything is run homepathically, with little to no inputs in the viticulture or winemaking. A true cult producer!
