2019 Fleet Seville East Syrah

Yarra Valley, VIC

Uber spicy, floral, dark-fruited cool climate Syrah from the dynamic Fleet duo!

Stylish, perhaps stylized too, but good.

About The Wine

Another very 'contemporary' wine here from the dynamic Fleet duo.

It's Syrah from the Thousand Candles Vineyard in Seville East, a happy stomping ground for high quality cool climate Shiraz.

That's exactly what this is - really spicy, floral, medium bodied and detailed, with enough plush black fruit to fill the palate.  Beautifully balanced as always and fascinating drinking.

About Fleet Wines

Fleet Wines is the culmination of 30 years of combined experience in wine hospitality for husband and wife duo Justin and Lisa Jenkins.

They have approached their label with an eye to crafting contemporary, elegant wines that slip neatly into the modern zeitgeist of Australian food and wine culture.

They source their fruit from Gippsland, Mornington Peninsula and the Yarra Valley with an increasing amount being farmed by them personally. With plenty of great press coming their way in a relatively short time, they are one young Victorian label that you'd do well to keep a close eye on.

From the Producer

The 2019 ‘White Label’ Syrah is a barrel selection of the wines we believed to have a little more concentration and depth of flavour, and the structure for cellaring.

There is undeniably a purity of cassis, plummy fruits on the nose, savoury spice and glimpses of white pepper. The palate is seamless, and the tannins give a lovely line and length.

Drink now, with a decant or cellar for 5-10 years.

‘Bright purple/blue colour, lifted cassis, spiced plums, white pepper, tapenade/savouriness flow onto the palate, with fine integrated tannins woven throughout, the palate builds and the finish is long.’

The Wine Front

"The Oaks Block, Thousand Candles Vineyard in Seville East. No whole bunch, but very spicy! 75 dozen made.  Heaps of white pepper, almost a Tabasco punch, blackcurrant and raspberry, clod earth and dried flowers, chamomile tea, even. It’s medium-bodied, with distinctly cool and ‘mineral’ feel, bony in a way, but dark fruit sweet, hazelnuts and meat, a sappy feel, and a frisky finish of fine length. It’s one of those borderline wines, barely there, but there. A bit of graphite tannin as it goes. Stylish, perhaps stylized too, but good." - Gary Walsh (The Wine Front)
