There’s a whole lot going on here and it’s très smart. Outstanding value.
About The Wine
This comes from a single site in the Upper Yarra, three hundred metres off the Valley floor where the vines enjoy cooler nights and a lengthened growing season.
The fruit is picked relatively early in order to capitalise on that inherent freshness and to preserve a citrus driven fruit profile with lime and stone fruit in the background. Deft handling of lees and French puncheons adds texture and this is simply another great chardonnay.
The Portets showing their expertise in the region once again.
About Dominique Portet
Dominique Portet, quite simply, is international winemaking royalty. From a winemaking family that stretches back 10 generations in Bordeaux, his father Andre Portet was régisseur (vineyard and winery manager) of Chateau Lafite-Rothschild in Pauillac.
He is one of the original “Flying Winemakers”, having scoured the world in search of new and interesting exploits in wine which eventually lead him to the Yarra Valley.
Here Portet found “... wines with a fragrance and structure reminiscent of the wines of Bordeaux. The Yarra has a charm and a beauty that engulfs you, and its wines are worldly” and chose this as his home away from home.
