Here’s a stunning wine for lovers of rich Alsace pinot gris,
James Suckling
About the Wine
A multi-vineyard blend, the Roche Calcaire Gris is intentionally made to style, with consistency vintage on vintage, the driving factor in what parcels of fruit Olivier chooses to use in any given year.
Complex fruit aromas; think stone fruit, autumn orchard fruits as well as an underlying minerality (like all their wines), drive the intense nose here. It’s a wine that is ripe and approachable right on release, though again like all their wines will reward those who have patience.
A beautiful velvety mouth texture that shows great energy, lives in perfect harmony with the natural acidity creating a perfect balance with the slight residual sugar. It’s a mouth-party kind of wine for sure!
About Domaine Zind Humbrecht
Current winemaker Olivier Humbrecht is the latest custodian of this famous Domaine which has an unbroken winemaking lineage in Alsace since 1620.
Also an MW, Olivier was the first French winemaker to attain this prestigious title and remains one of the few global winemakers who have committed to this intense and some would say insane pursuit.
One of the hallmarks of every Zind-Humbrecht wine has been its overriding sense of terroir; their focus on their vineyard sites is paramount, with every aspect of their winemaking and viticulture tailored to that goal. Since 2002 they have been certified both organic and biodynamic.
