About The Wine
Shaun Crinion has made quite the name for himself as one of the most exciting Chardonnay producers in the Yarra Valley.
This is his most powerful and high-tensile Chardonnay from the 2019 vintage.
It sees a touch more new oak than the Appelation Chardonnay from the same vintage and also spends more time on lees which Shaun thinks highlights more of the unique qualities derived from the vineyard in the wine.
This is an electric Chardonnay - tight, inwardly concentrated and precise. It is a wine that will develop beautifully in the cellar.
About Dappled
Dappled owner/winemaker Shaun Crinion has a mountain of winemaking experience from around the globe, culminating with the establishment of a label all of his own.
Shaun's focus is on expressing the sub-regionality of the Yarra Valley through simply gorgeous Pinot Noir and Chardonnay and a growing range of experimental wines.
With the combination of Shaun's A-grade fruit from the Yarra's top growers and his precise, astute winemaking, the value on offer in the Dappled range is second to none.
He was James Halliday's Best New Winery in 2018. The wines have only stepped in quality since then though the modest pricing remains the same. Unsurprisingly, his wines sell out in short order each year. He's now regarded as one of the best small-scale producers in the modern Yarra Valley.

From The Producer
Sourced from John and Josie D’Aloisio’s vineyard located high up on the hill above the township of Seville. The I10V1 clone Chardonnay was planted in 1991 on its own roots (non-grafted) and is grown on the stunningly rich red volcanic soils this subregion of the Yarra Valley is famous for.
Winemaking
The fruit is hand-picked and cooled overnight. Whole bunches are lightly crushed by foot before a long pressing when the un-sulphured juice is transferred straight to oak. The oak is a combination of old (75%) and new (25%) French barriques and puncheons. Ferments are allowed to start naturally (wild) and complete with no temperature control. The wine is not battonaged and left on lees for 10 months in oak and a further 5 months on lees in stainless steel. Some MLF may have occurred but not encouraged and SO2 is added when the wine is ready for it. The wine is lightly filtered before being bottled un-fined by hand via gravity.
Tasting Notes
Aromas of ripe stone fruits, citrus blossom and flint combine with a touch of roasted hazelnuts, wood smoke and a savoury, almost earthen, character. The palate is where this wine shines! Flavours are densely packed with mixed stone fruits, lime juice and a saline/mineral core that drives it all through. The flavours linger for a good while. This wine is a stayer and with that density of fruit at its core it should last the long haul in the cellar.

Opens wth spent fireworks, struck flint and cool green apple aromas. A wine of quiet intensity unfolds in the glass. Grapefruit, cinnamon apples, well poised oak providing some scaffolding. Let it warm up, let it unfurl. It's a coiled spring at the moment. Time will be kind. Beautiful Chardonnay now or in ten years. It's a great release from Shaun. - Different Drop Wine Team

Do I have to order in dozens? No, please mix it up! You can order wines in any quantity and variation you like. You can order 1 bottle or 50. We challenge you to make the ultimate mixed pack of wine!
Are there volume discounts? No, our pricing is designed to be the best in market already - no marking up and then discounting down! For very large orders (weddings, etc) we are open to negotiating though. Just give us a call.
Do we price match? Yes, within reason. Everyday low & consistent pricing is something we strongly believe in. We want our customers to feel confident they are always getting the best price. If you see a price lower somewhere else let us know and we'll consider matching it. We'll even retrospectively issue you store credit if you have already purchased from us but you see a lower price somewhere later on. Our price match policy can be seen here.
Can coupons and discounts be stacked? No, only one discount or coupon can be applied to an order at once.
I am trying to add more of a wine to my cart but it won’t let me? This means we are running low on stock of that wine. So for example, if the website will only allow you to add 3 bottles and no more, then that is all we have of that particular wine. The good news is we may be able to order more for you. Just contact us on 02 8376 8775 or hello@differentdrop.com and we'll organise the additional quantity for you.
Does Different Drop have a physical store? No. Just an a warehouse/office. We occasionally do events however, so sign up to our newsletter or follow us on instagram to stay in the loop.
Can I special order a wine you do not sell? If it’s doable, then we’ll make it happen. Just contact us directly via phone, chat or email and we’ll find out for you right away. Please note that in most cases special orders such as these will need to be in full case lots (6 or 12 bottles).
