About

About The Wine

Benjamin Leroux's village level wines, particularly in the reds, are outstanding in 2019, and the Savigny-les-Beaune represents possibly the best value among them.

It shows a power and sophistication not far off many 1er reds in the region, this release showing a particularly linear palate with a floral, musky nose, pure red fruit crunch and some light herbal notes (20% whole bunch).

This offers gorgeous drinking now and will cellar beautifully for the next decade or more.

About Benjamin Leroux

Burgundian native Benjamin Leroux is one of the brightest minds and winemaking talents of his generation.

Considered a winemaking prodigy from an early age, Leroux attended the Lycée Viticole in Baune at the tender age of 13. Then, at the age of just 26, he ascended to the roles of manager and winemaker in the famed cellars of Domaine Comte Armand - a remarkable vote of confidence in one so young.

In 2007 he launched his eponymous label to wide critical acclaim. His has been a meteoric rise through the ranks of Burgundy's producers. His incisive modern approach to winemaking combined with his deep knowledge and respect for tradition has seen his small, hand-crafted cuveés coveted by collectors across the world.

These wines speak eloquently of where they come from. A legend in the making, Leroux's wines are some of the most exciting in modern-day Burgundy.

From The Importer

Screwcap. The lion’s share of this vintage comes from two terroirs: the outstanding Aux Fourneaux in the north of the village and Ez Connardises in the heart of the village. There’s also a barrel of 1er Cru Les Hauts Jarrons this year. Twenty per cent whole bunches were used, entirely from the Fourneaux parcel, where lots of Pinot Fin and low yields gave great concentration in 2019.

The wine was raised in a mixture of foudre and 228-litre Burgundian pieces, 20% new for 14 months. The note below sums this up well. Those who know the wine will know what to expect, although there is more depth and a twist more structure in 2019.

Blend : Pinot Noir (100%)
ABV : 13.5%
Closure : Screw Cap
Drink Until : 2029
Bottle Size : 750ml

"“The 2019 Savigny-lès-Beaune Village includes 20% whole bunch from village cru Fourneaux and also from Connadises. It has a lovely bouquet – very pure, with crushed strawberry and rose petal aromas and just a touch of vanilla in the background. The medium-bodied palate has a rounded texture, touches of marmalade infusing the dark berry fruit, and a touch of bitter cherry on the finish. Recommended.” 89-91 points, Neal Martin (Vinous)
