About The Wine
This is the most intense and piercing of the excellent white wines from Antonio Madeira.
This field blend is comprised of 23 native Portuguese white varieties grown on granite soils across two vineyards: one 25 years of age, the other averaging over 80 years.
A saline edge, fine, electric acidity, a white flower lift to the nose and an exceptional extension of flavour through the finish characterise this release.
Think of the racy spine of Riesling with the texture of something along the lines of Grenache Blanc or similar and you're in the right zone. It's a gorgeous white wine. Just 2000 bottles made.
About Antonio Madeira
Antonio Madeira is a winemaker of Portuguese decent, who was raised in France before returning to his home in the highlands of Portugal's Dao region to start his own label in 2011.
After rejuvenating some old, neglected vineyards high in the Serra da Estrela hills, Antonio set about producing a set of outstanding field blends that speak of his home. Biodynamic practices underpin the venture, as does a natural, Burgundian-inspired approach in the cellar.
Each wine is co-fermented. Antonio believes that grapes that grow together should go together. The resulting wines are startlingly pure - etched with clean lines, fresh acidity and crunchy mineral texture. Made in tiny quantities and mainlining a sense of place, these are exciting additions to the Portuguese landscape.
