About The Wine

A future classic for Clare Valley Shiraz in the making here from Col McBryde and Jen Gardner.

Grown on gnarly old centurian vines in some of the region's finest grape-growing land, this is a knockout Shiraz of intensity, class and immense potential. It's Clare Valley through and through. Bold and striking, showing regional mint and purple fruit on a bedrock of incredibly impressive tannin.

Only a little over a 125 dozen were produced in the 2019 vintage. It was summarised beautifully by Nick Stock in the closing note to his sensational 98 point review, "A great wine, this should be on every contemporary Australian wine collector’s hit list."

This is the beauty of some of the Clare Valley's finest terroir writ large.

About Adelina

Col McBryde and Jennie Gardner are Adelina.

A pair of smart cookies, each rocking a PhD in microbiology and between them some pretty serious winemaking chops. Together, they have formed one of the Clare Valley’s most exciting wineries. From what was a small operation that began in 2002, slowly but surely the Adelina brand has been picking up steam.

There is a delicacy and purity inherent in every wine they produce. From opulent old vine Shiraz and Mataro, to one of the country’s most excellent Nebbiolo and a set of scintillating Rieslings, there is a sense of class and refinement to the whole project.

These meticulously crafted, beautifully presented wines are just a joy to drink.

Critic Reviews

98Points
James Suckling

"Wow, this is a rich, complex and super focused edition with a spice-laced, dark-plum and blackberry nose, together with cassis, blueberries, anise, violets, forest wood, hints of tar and some savory, wet slate-like aromas. The palate has essence-like purity and focus with long, polished tannins carrying blackberries, plums, blueberries, nuances of cocoa and a very long, elegant and unwavering run to the finish. A great wine, this should be on every contemporary Australian wine collector’s hit list. Drink over the next twenty years. Screw cap." - Nick Stock (JamesSuckling.com)

95Points
The Wine Front

"The wines of Adelina make me want to just jump in a car and drive there. Dark berried fruit power with a lake of integrated tannin. Mint and cedarwood characters as support. There are twiggy, almost herbal notes hovering here but fruit and the most gorgeous sheets of tannin are the main show. This is beautiful. Really beautiful. I’m not just urging you; I’m urging myself towards the order form." - Campbell Mattinson (The Wine Front)

This blew me away at the price

If I'd tasted this blind, I would have thought this was a wine I couldn't afford. It's complex and hard to nail all of the flavours. Is it berry, plum or forest floor? Probably all three and more. Is it star anise or chocolate? Probably both and more. Its colour is superb and lingers forever. The bottle is gorgeous. This is a superb wine at the price. I'm now wishing I'd bought more. Bugger it - I just did

Orders are still arriving safe and sound but you may notice slower delivery times and less frequent scanning updates than usual.

Are there volume discounts? No, our pricing is designed to be the best in market already - no marking up and then discounting down! For very large orders (weddings, etc) we are open to negotiating though. Just give us a call.

Do we price match? Yes, within reason. Everyday low & consistent pricing is something we strongly believe in. We want our customers to feel confident they are always getting the best price. If you see a price lower somewhere else let us know and we'll consider matching it. We'll even retrospectively issue you store credit if you have already purchased from us but you see a lower price somewhere later on. Our price match policy can be seen here.

Can coupons and discounts be stacked? No, only one discount or coupon can be applied to an order at once.

I am trying to add more of a wine to my cart but it won’t let me? This means we are running low on stock of that wine. So for example, if the website will only allow you to add 3 bottles and no more, then that is all we have of that particular wine. The good news is we may be able to order more for you. Just contact us on 1300 668 385 or hello@differentdrop.com and we'll organise the additional quantity for you.

Does Different Drop have a physical store? No. Just an a warehouse/office. We occasionally do events however, so sign up to our newsletter or follow us on instagram to stay in the loop.

Can I special order a wine you do not sell? If it’s doable, then we’ll make it happen. Just contact us directly via phone, chat or email and we’ll find out for you right away. Please note that in most cases special orders such as these will need to be in full case lots (6 or 12 bottles).
