About The Wine

Adelina are kicking some serious goals as of late. Their stylish packaging, the amazing old vine fruit they utilise, the 'house style' of the wines, all coming up trumps for this Clare Valley duo.

Their Grenache fits squarely in the 'new wave' of Grenache sweeping the Australian wine industry. This is a finer boned expression of Grenache. The fruit from Block 2 on this stunning 80+-year-old vineyard on their estate is left on skins for 28 days in concrete vats prior to pressing to neutral barrels. This extracts maximum character from the fruit in its purest form. Freshness and age worthiness reign supreme here.

As Mike Bennie described it in his cracking 94+ point review, "this is complex and wonderful stuff here.". We love this style of Grenache, it is the future of the variety in this country and this one is mixing it with the best.

About Adelina

Col McBryde and Jennie Gardner are Adelina. A pair of smart cookies, each rocking a PhD in microbiology and between them some pretty serious winemaking chops. Together, they have formed one of the Clare Valley's most exciting wineries.

From what was a small operation that began in 2002, slowly but surely the Adelina brand has been picking up steam.

There is a delicacy and purity inherent in every wine they produce. From opulent old vine Shiraz and Mataro, to one of the country's most excellent Nebbiolo and a set of scintillating Rieslings, there is a sense of class and refinement to the whole project.

These meticulously crafted, beautifully presented wines are just a joy to drink.

"Serious grenache from serious but fun-loving Adelina. Concrete fermented, matured in old wood. Beautiful, light garnet colour all shimmering and pretty. Just shy of medium weight, a sheath of firm but silky tannins, cherry juice, pomegranate, rose hip tea the baselines. Light spice elements, dry and savoury, exceptional structure through this wine, you feel all the ribs of grip and pucker, a skeleton draped in Something Special Grenache. Tannins of great nebbiolo, let’s say. Tightly wound, don’t expect flourishes, this is complex and wonderful stuff here." - Mike Bennie (The Wine Front)
