A brilliant intro to skin contact wines appears here.
About The Wine
There's more than enough 'line-and-length' Semillon in the Hunter Valley so Angus Vinden thought he try something new.
In an effort to find a more contemporary and approachable style of Semillon, Gus gave this batch of fruit a full week on skins before pressing. It's not a 'skinsy' wine per se, it's just a more texturally interesting version of Semillon than you would typically see at this stage of the wine's life.
It's great to see a young Hunter winemaker unafraid to experiment. His boundary pushing is paying dividends.
Here's a Hunter Semillon you'll want to drink immediately!
About Vinden Estate
Young Angus Vinden is the owner/winemaker of this much-loved Hunter Valley winery.
Having taken the reins from his father just a few years ago, Gus is reimagining his family's wine label with a string of exciting, modern wines coming out of his cellar.
He sources fruit from some of the Hunter's greatest vineyards, focusing on Semillon and Shiraz primarily as well as turning out a very good Tempranillo.
He's one of the young guns of the Hunter Valley that should have a close eye kept on him. His wines are on the up!
