About The Wine

This is a great value little seafood wine that blends two varieties to make something greater than the sum of its parts.

Fiano is finding a happy home in Langhorne Creek, picking up great texture and palate weight through the winemaking process. The portion of Adelaide Hills Semillon freshens the whole thing up and adds some zip and crunch to the wine.

It's super fresh and gently textural, the perfect wine to kick back with beachside.

About Varney

Varney Wines began with just a "tonne for fun" for Alan Varney to play around with over a decade ago.

He took his years of experience working at top South Australian wineries, including time spent at Orlando Wines, Longview Vineyard and over a decade as senior winemaker at d’Arenberg, and poured his skills into crafting a style of wine that he and his friends and family could enjoy.

The side gig became a full-time obsession, leading to Alan purchasing a dilapidated property at the Gateway of McLaren Vale to house a tasting room alongside his wife Kathrin’s restaurant, Victor’s Place. A sustainable modern winery was built. Their first commercial release was unveiled. The wines have been taking off ever since culminating with Varney being named James Halliday's Best New Winery in 2021.

Halliday Wine Companion

"60% semillon from Kuitpo in the Adelaide Hills, cool-fermented in tank, 40% fiano from Langhorne Creek, cold-soaked for 24 hours, the juice hyper-oxidised to soften phenolics prior to fermentation in used barriques. Creeps up on you - just as you think another taste is needed, the combination of flavour and texture makes you realise it's already there." - James Halliday (Halliday Wine Companion)

"A lovely, vibrant wine in the glass. Hearty, meaty, earthy aromas, briars and dried herbs. Dried plums and redcurrants lead the palate - it wrestles with itself and is better for the tussle. Intense raspberries and cranberries build to the finish. Classy and composed. Tremendous." - Nick Butler (The Real Review)

"Interesting blend. Lime, chamomile, raw almond, saline. Good skinsy tannin and crunch to the texture, brine and ripe citrus, apple as well, juicy, yet also pleasantly bitter, and again the distinct salinity in the aftertaste. Wax and grip. Distinctly Italianate in feel, and also very enjoyable with it. A huge bowl of mussels would be ideal." - Gary Walsh (The Wine Front)

Delivery times vary considerably with Australia Post and unfortunately there is no Express Delivery Option for wine (because it is fragile and heavy). Strict government health and safety requirements and very high parcel volumes are causing significant backlogs at the main NSW and VIC sorting facilities. Orders are still arriving safe and sound but you may notice slower delivery times and less frequent scanning updates than usual.

Do we price match? Yes, within reason. Everyday low & consistent pricing is something we strongly believe in. We want our customers to feel confident they are always getting the best price. I am trying to add more of a wine to my cart but it won’t let me? This means we are running low on stock of that wine. Can I special order a wine you do not sell? If it’s doable, then we’ll make it happen. Just contact us directly via phone, chat or email and we’ll find out for you right away. Please note that in most cases special orders such as these will need to be in full case lots (6 or 12 bottles).
