Description

The Cherry Fields has become one of the most popular wines in the UZ range over the last couple of vintages, and it's in top form again.

Once again it comes from the Polish Hill River sub-region of the Clare Valley, a place Brendan and Laura Carter love sourcing fruit from. When you think Dolcetto you think sweet, fruity reds, but this is anything but.

Wildly aromatic, vibrantly juicy and surprisingly structural, this is a lot of wine built into not a lot of body. The Carters recommend this wine for "eating with your hands", and 20 minutes in the fridge would do it no harm at all. It's different, yes, but most of all it's just one of those reds that is near impossible to put down.

A foray into a very exciting piece of dirt - known as Polish Hill River (Clare Valley). We once told ourselves, that if we weren't looking at the Adelaide Hills for the best sites for our varieties - it'd be Clare Valley.

Inland, continental climate, warms days and cold nights. Not to mention slate-ridden soils that pebble all through the vineyard. It's the sort of thing that winemakers live for - and we're pleased to say our punt on this family-owned vineyard has paid off. That's not to take the thunder away from our tiny Adelaide Hills vineyard, which provides the aromatic spark of life to this wine. Known as the 'little sweet one' in its homeland - although all the Dolcetto crafted there are most definitely dry.

It's the impression of fruit sweetness (or juiciness) that gives an effect of confection - smells sweet, tastes dry. This cheeky Dolcetto is no different - an aromatic, bright and tight little dry red that's absolutely perfect for chilling down and drinking (rather quickly) during those warm balmy days, when whites just don't cut the mustard. It's a creative wine for creatives - great results from Dolcetto-Sangria too! The general rule that we live by - if you're eating with your hands - you need Dolcetto on the table.

After what was easily one of our most popular wines of 2014, we couldn't pass up the opportunity to craft more Polish Hill River Dolcetto - and in 2015, we were very happy to have gained a touch a more ripeness than the previous vintage, lending more intense aromatics - and a slightly rounder palate-shape. Most surprisingly was the impact that the added tannin ripeness achieved.

A wine that lends a little more structure - and can therefore lead into meals more readily that a strict aperitif-style beverage. A nose of bright, maraschino cherries, plums and red fruit - with a smoothening palate weight and svelte tannin structure, without sacrificing a tightening acidity.

    A gorgeous Dolcetto

Everything about this wine screams drink me. A full flavored, yet still a lighter style of red. Great value and a must for the cellar for when you don't want to drink big Barossa or McLaren Vale Shiraz’s every night!

Unico Zelo

Unico Zelo is the project of winemaking couple Brendan and Laura Carter. In their words, their aim is to create “Italian-inspired, textural and site-expressive wines” and “Australian examples of Mediterranean varieties in an approachable and jovial fashion.”

Since bursting onto the scene in 2014 with their eye-catching, outrageously good value alternative vino, the Carters have spread their wings and their range. They now make a large suite of wines, including single vineyard examples of Fiano, Nero d'Avola and Nebbiolo. They are one of the most dynamic winemaking duos in the Adelaide Hills.

Ordering

We want Different Drop customers to always be getting the best price. If you see a lower price elsewhere, just get in touch and we will sort it out for you. We handle all our price-matching on a case by case basis.

Some things to keep in mind:

  • Retrospective price-matching is available for 30 days after you have purchased from us.
  • The price match cannot be used in conjunction with a coupon or one-off deal we are offering. The idea is for you to get the best price in the market so if that is already achieved through a coupon then we won't price match on top of that.
  • We don't price match clearance or fire sales.
  • We’ll match the listed price as long as it is a legitimate offer and the competing store is actually able to fulfil the order (they have stock or more stock is en route). Essentially we won't price match cheeky vendors listing wines they have no hope of actually getting for you...
  • It must be a publicly listed price. We won't match a price that has been achieved through a coupon/cash-back arrangement, or through a non-advertised offer over the phone or otherwise.
  • It is limited to a reasonable retail quantity.

We'll treat each price match request on its merit and reserve the right to refuse where we deem fit. For example, particularly rare wines, from non-trust-worthy vendors, in circumstances we deem illegitimate or if we feel our policy is being unfairly taken advantage of.

At the end of the day, we'll look after you and use common sense to ensure you're getting the best price, please just don't take the p%$$!

No, feel free to mix it up! There is no minimum requirement. You can order wines in any quantity or combination, 1 or 50+ bottles.

We stock three different sized gift boxes (single, three bottle and six), all are available for purchase for a flat rate of $8. They look great and make an awesome impression.

To add a gift box to your order, simply add at checkout. The special requests box is your friend, please give us as many details of what you are looking for and we will try our best, or get in contact to discuss it with you.

If you want to bulk order gifts or if you have any trouble please email hello@differentdrop.com or call and we can try and help.

If you can't add more wine to your cart it means we are low on stock of that wine. For example, if you are only able to 3 bottles and no more that means we only have 3 bottles left of that wine. If it's a must have, please contact us and we may be able to order more in for you.
