About The Wine

It could be reasonably argued that Clos Tour de Curon is one of the greatest places on planet earth to grow the Chardonnay grape.

The wines of Stephane Tissot from this hallowed site have reached mythical status amongst collectors. The clarity, the extension of flavour, the intense saline thrust, and the sheer minerality of the Chardonnays from this vineyard see them age brilliantly out to two decades or more.

The vines are planted at an insanely high density (up to 27000 vines per hectare in certain pockets), the yields are kept incredibly low to maximise the power and concentration of the finished wine. It sits at the very apex of Chardonnay from anywhere in the world.

There are only a meagre 1650 bottles produced from this site on average every year. If you're lucky, you could own one (and drink one) for yourself.

About Benedicte & Stephane Tissot

Andrew Jefford once described Stéphane as a, "human firework", which sums up his irrepressible energy and tenacity perfectly. Stéphane, along with his wife Benedicte are two of the most exacting and impassioned producers in the Jura today.

Their range spans the full gamut of the region: from delicious, toasty Cremant to laser-focused styles of Chardonnay and Savagnin; through his electric examples of Pinot Noir, Poulsard and Trousseau to their iconic oxidative Vin Jaune wines aged under flor. These wines have loudly proclaimed the quality and unique character of the Jura for many years. They are farmed biodynamically (Demeter certified), made in tiny and precise batches, and speak of each unique terroir under the Tissot banner in a unique voice.

The wines of Tissot sit at the very pinnacle of the region. They are natural, they are living, they are wines of unwavering integrity and singular character. They offer a transcendent drinking experience that you won't find anywhere else.

The Chevalier Montrachet of the Jura.

From a mythical Clos of .72 of a hectare that dominates the vista of the Arbois vineyards. The hillside is shaped like a derriere and of course there is an ancient stone tower on the hill, all surrounded by a stone wall (hence the ancient name of the clos of tower on the arse).

Here the old vines are planted at a density of 12,000 per hectare.

The Wine Front

"The 2018 harvest in Jura has been described as ‘quite warm’ to ‘very warm’ though best producers have managed well and frankly, no hail and frost is pretty refreshing. Tour du Curon is arguably the best site in all of Jura for white grapes, indeed, one of the best chardonnay sites on earth.A bold wine, distinct, powerful, strongly saline, very savoury, direct, satiny, exceptionally long and profound in its layer and layers and layers of flavour. Perfume is no slouch, all salted cashew, ripe stone fruits, apple, ginger biscuits and floral things, so lovely to sniff on and evocative of the region. There will be a conversation about alcohol (15.5%) but the wine holds it all in neatly, though you’ve got no wallflower here. So much verity to the season too. Phenomenal depth, incredibly impressive wine, moreish, compelling, complex, so packed with detail. A truly symphonic wine." - Mike Bennie (The Wine Front)

Delivery times vary considerably with Australia Post and unfortunately there is no Express Delivery Option for wine (because it is fragile and heavy). Strict government health and safety requirements and very high parcel volumes are causing significant backlogs at the main NSW and VIC sorting facilities. Orders are still arriving safe and sound but you may notice slower delivery times and less frequent scanning updates than usual.
