About The Wine
A fantastic example of Syrah here from the Swinney family and the crack team of Rob Mann and Lee Haselgrove.
While Western Australian Cabernet Sauvignon gets the lion's share of attention, Shiraz when grown in the right spot can excel, particularly when grown and tended by someone as knowledgeable as Lee Haselgrove.
This is a brilliant Syrah. It's spicy, intense and powerful, ready to drink now or in a decade's time. Rob Mann has brought a wealth of experience to the Swinney operation since coming on as winemaker in 2018 and every ounce of his skill is on show here.
As Campbell Mattinson said in his 95 point review, it's quite simply "Gorgeous."
The Swinney family's roots in Frankland River stretch back over 100 years.
George John Alexander Swinney was a pioneer of the region, settling a grazing property in Franklands in 1922. Today the property is run by fourth generation brother and sister, Matt and Janelle Swinney. They are taking the family property into great new territory.
Bush vines litter the property. Riesling, Grenache, Syrah and Mourvedre are fining a very happy home on the ironstone slopes above the Frankland River.
Now, with viticulturalist wizard Lee Haselgrove tending the vines and sixth generation winemaker Rob Mann crafting the wines in the cellar, this label is on track to become one of the regional benchmarks in short order.
