About The Wine
Sam Connew grows her own Riesling on the Palisander vineyard, in Coal River Valley, TAS.
It's an exciting development for Sam and her brand, now having viticultural control over her fruit. The first releases have been excellent. The 2018 season was warmer than usual for Tasmania, the acids in this Riesling less severe and the more generous in fruit flavour.
The thumbprint of Tasmanian terroir shines through regardless, but there's possibly more joy to had in this wine in its youth than usual. Sam works lovely texture into the wine, utilising a touch of skin contact, some lees stirring and a dab of sweetness to allow the wine to find balance in its youth.
This is a classy Riesling with a plethora of personality.
Sam Connew. Previous Chief Winemaker a the famous Wirra Wirra vineyards, said she'd never start her own label.
She packed her bags and left the Vale to her home in the Hunter Valley. A couple of trips to Tassie later, and boom, Stargazer was born.
It is a labour of love for Sam, making small quantities of wine from small parcels of fruit. Striving for individuality and quality.
Sam's wines are beautiful, ethereal representations of the Apple Isle.
