About The Wine
This, the 'entry-level' Shiraz from the Powell & Son range gives good insight into their house style.
This fruit from 20+ year old vineyards predominantly in the north of the Barossa is fermented in concrete then sent to huge foudre for maturation before bottling. Oak is used here as a seasoning, not the star of the show, as is the case with many Barossa Shiraz. It's lush, ripe and sweetly fruited while feeling fresh at the same time.
The finished wine is a moreish, open-faced Barossa Shiraz that enthusiasts of the style will instantly fall in love with.
Great value to be had here for the Barossa Shiraz fan.
About Powell & Son
Powell & Son is a joint operation between father and son team, David and Callum Powell.
David was the spearhead behind the Torbreck juggernaut that took the world by storm in the 1990s. After leaving the Torbreck name behind, David and Callum partnered up to establish their own small operation focused around expressing some of the Barossa and Eden Valley's most precious vineyards.
With his decades-long relationships with these Barossa Valley growers as the foundation of the project, David has taken a step back in terms of the winemaking. It's now up to Callum to do the heavy lifting in the cellar, bringing these powerhouse expressions of Barossa Valley reds to life and writing the next chapter in the story of the Powell family and their beloved Barossa Valley.
