About The Wine

Sam Coverdale is living his dream. Farming a little patch of Mornington Peninsula and making wines that he loves to drink.

"We believe that great wines have character and balance, and that they are grown on the vine." he says, hence his move toward organic farming principals.

The more care he has taken in the vineyard, the better the wines have become. The proof really is in the pudding.

This comes from the warmest of Sam's three vineyards.  It's the first picked each year, and it produces powerful, intensely concentrated and structural Pinots.

A 'serious' Pinot here, which while lovely to drink now will definitely benefit with time in the cellar.

Winemaking

The fruit is handpicked and destemmed into a 2 ton open fermenter as whole berries and left to start fermenting naturally. It is not touched until a 2-3 drop in baume , which allows fermentation to occur inside the grape berries , increasing the aromatics of the wine.

Once fermentation starts strongly, the ferment is handplunged 2-3 times per day for 10 days or until sugar is dry . The wine is left on skins for post ferment maturation for another 10 days. It is then pressed off skins and racked to barrel. 30 % new oak and predominately Sirugue Troncais extra tight grain Medium toast and D’aquitaine Allier and Jupier tight grain medium toast oak barrels.

In spring the wine is racked and returned to barrel. After a total of 16 months barrel maturation the wine is bottled without fining or filtration and minimal sulphur.

DDS review

Aromatically the wine shows ripe red fruits and darker intense berries underpinned by freshly crushed black peppercorn. The palate continues to lead with ripe red fruit and aromatics. The tannin is fine and lively with some gentle spice and complexity toward the finish. - Sam Coverdale (Owner/Winemaker)

Do we price match? Yes, within reason. Everyday low & consistent pricing is something we strongly believe in. We want our customers to feel confident they are always getting the best price. If you see a price lower somewhere else let us know and we'll consider matching it. We'll even retrospectively issue you store credit if you have already purchased from us but you see a lower price somewhere later on. Our price match policy can be seen here.

Can coupons and discounts be stacked? No, only one discount or coupon can be applied to an order at once.

I am trying to add more of a wine to my cart but it won’t let me? This means we are running low on stock of that wine. So for example, if the website will only allow you to add 3 bottles and no more, then that is all we have of that particular wine. The good news is we may be able to order more for you. Just contact us on 02 8376 8775 or hello@differentdrop.com and we'll organise the additional quantity for you.

Does Different Drop have a physical store? No. Just an a warehouse/office. We occasionally do events however, so sign up to our newsletter or follow us on instagram to stay in the loop.

Can I special order a wine you do not sell? If it’s doable, then we’ll make it happen. Just contact us directly via phone, chat or email and we’ll find out for you right away. Please note that in most cases special orders such as these will need to be in full case lots (6 or 12 bottles).
