About the Wine
Although now mostly planted second fiddle to Chardonnay and not much sighted, Aligoté is white Burgundy’s underdog charmer.
Proof of its quality is evident in the array of great Burgundian estates that still champion it, including Leflaive, D’Auvenay and Roulot. Morey’s is a beauty, coming from Meursault vines over 50 years old.
A subtle white taut with green apple, lemon and smokey cap gun flint. This old dog needs no tricks to deliver buoyant, fleshy Burgundy that’s well-alive and kicking.
About Pierre Morey
Though quiet and understated, Pierre Morey is something of a Burgundy legend. Having commenced the building of his estate with his father in 1971, they sharecropped some of the top vineyards belonging to the Comte Lafon estate.
Later serving as General Manager of the esteemed Domaine Leflaive from 1988-2008, Pierre worked to convert this estate first to organic practices and later to biodynamic farming, in unison with his own holdings.
Now working with his daughter Anne, their 10 hectares is centred around a Meursault home base, with additional holdings in Puligny-Montrachet, Monthélie and Pommard.
Wines for their negociant business are sold under the Morey Blanc label.
