About The Wine
The Pegasus Bay Sauvignon Blanc Semillon is a New World take on an Old World wine, showing complex flavours and reflecting the ripeness of the fruit.
It opens with the classic Sauvignon Blanc aromas of passionfruit and melon, with some added orange peel and blossom, with the intense fruit stemming from fermentation in stainless steel, while the Semillon adds texture and some savoury characters due to barrel fermentation. There is a pleasing palate weight arising from maturation on lees, while the high acidity keeps the wine balanced and vibrant.
If you're looking for a Bordeaux white without the high price tag, it's difficult to go past the Pegasus Bay which overdelivers on quality.
About Pegasus Bay
Ivan Donaldson's journey into wine started in the 1970s. After receiving a wine-focused book from his girlfriend, Christine, they explored the vineyards of Europe and then returned to their home in New Zealand, planting one of the first vineyards in the Canterbury region. Ivan and Christine subsequently got married, and their story has become entwined with wine ever since.
The vineyard, planted in 1985, is home to an array of grapes, such as Riesling, Gewurztraminer, Pinot Gris, Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Merlot, with their reserve Pinot Noir – Prima Donna – receiving many very positive reviews for its incredible quality.
