About the Wine
A good Pinot Noir is always a stunning thing. It's a delicate grape and is prone to drama, both in the vineyard and in the winery. Sometimes the best thing to do is nothing, and just let the fruit do what it wants. This is what happened here. Fruit was sourced from sustainable vineyards throughout California (mostly Sonoma), with minimal intervention in the winery.
Fleshy and fruity, this has a lot more depth than you'd probably expect from a Pinot, but it wears its flavours and texture well. Dark forest fruits, blackberry and ground spices all come through, with fresh herbs too. There is a lick of grainy tannin as well making this incredibly versatile. Have it with fresh air, game meat or a savoury risotto. You really can't go wrong.
About Norton Ridge
Norton Ridge is a giant slayer, over-delivering flavour, texture and quality. It's a collaboration between several producers and T. Edwards Wines, one of the USA's largest wholesalers. With an impressive array of resources and a rag-tag team of experts, it's little wonder that they aimed big. But it's the humility of the wines which grabs us.
These aren't big, over worked or in your face. The wines are all about ease and designed to be value driven and food friendly. They also emphasise fruit quality from the very start, with all grapes sourced from sustainable vineyards throughout Napa and Sonoma. There is minimal intervention in the winemaking, with no new oak used at all. Welcome to the new California.
