About The Wine

Roussanne is one of Michael Hall's real passions.

This bold white grape hailing from the Rhone Valley in France is the kind of variety that demands a considered approach in the cellar to look its best. Michael wants a complex and detailed example to shine from the glass, but one which doesn't shy way from the variety's natural richness.

He's done a very good job with this release. The whole wine is fermented wild in barrel and then aged in oak (30% new) before bottling, giving the wine a roundness and toastiness which makes it moreish to the last drop.

Never one to do things by halves, Hall's craftsmanship and care with this variety are second to none.

About Michael Hall

It is Michael Hall's precise and methodical approach to winemaking which has made him stand out in the crowd of Barossa Valley winemakers.

A jewellery valuator in a previous life, his wines ooze clarity and attention to detail. They focus on small vineyards in the Barossa and Adelaide Hills that produce high-quality fruit. The wine are made with no shortcuts in the winery and an unwavering commitment to quality.

These are classically styled, refined wines designed to speak articulately of the Barossa and the surrounds.

Michael's wines are top shelf.

Additional Info

From The Producer

The Roussanne grape owes its name to the reddish or russet bloom it develops on its skin as it reaches full maturity. This grape is late ripening and ideally suited to the Barossa climate vintage.

Good winter rains preceded mild spring temperatures and a warm January. Temperature swings from mid-February resulted in a later vintage than expected. Hand-picked on 13 March, wild yeast barrel fermented, eight months on lees, fined, filtered and bottled. Lemon yellow, almond pastry and roasted quince, crisp green apple, cut hay and dried lime.

Blend : Roussanne (100%)
ABV : 13.8%
Closure : Screw Cap
Drink Until : 2026
Bottle Size : 750ml

The Wine Front

"Textural, chewy, slippery wine. Packs in lots of flavour, white flesh pear, some quince, good candied citrus character and a very faint marzipan note and finishes puckering and beautifully chalky. There is plenty going on here, lots to enjoy, interesting and delicious. Great stuff." - Mike Bennie (The Wine Front)
