Great shape, good refreshment factor. I’m in.

About The Wine
This is a must try for drinkers looking to explore the full scope of the Pinot Gris grape. Hamish Young has pushed this fruit to its limits.
Sourced from one of the oldest Pinot Gris vineyards in the Canberra region, he works complexity into the wine by fermenting in three parts. The first is a clean, classic tank ferment making up the majority of the blend. The second, 30% is fermented in old oak with a high proportion of solids to gain some extra grunt.
The remaining 15% was destemmed and fermented as whole berries. This portion sat on skins for two weeks picking up texture and spice to counteract the searing acid in the tank fermented portion.
The final result is a complex, nuanced wine full of textural intrigue. This is Pinot Gris in full flight.
About Mada Wines
Mada wines sees ex-Eden Road operational winemaker Hamish Young venture out on his own for the first time.
Sourcing fruit from some great sites across the Canberra and Hilltops regions, his first releases were a smash hit and his star continues to rise.
His wines show a fresher and more modern side of NSW wine, all about vibrant fruit and ease of drinking. He looks for texture in his aromatic whites, freshness in his delightful red wines, each release sees him refine his own 'house style' a little more.
This is a Canberra producer to watch for the future - one of the new crop shaking up the regional scene.
As Mike Bennie once said, "Mada Wines should be put on your list of wines to watch, or indeed to buy a bit of....then probably a lot of."
