2018 Mada Wines Blanc

Hilltops, NSW

Delicious, seamlessly balanced blend of Gewurtz, Gris and Riesling.

Fine and super refreshing, interesting too. Ticks boxes.

About The Wine

A beautifully balanced Gewürztraminer blend here from Hamish Young. The fruit comes from nearly 40-year-old vines on the Freeman vineyard in the Hilltops region.

Each parcel of Gewurztraminer, Pinot Gris and Riesling was fermented separately to give himself complete control of the final blend. The Gewurz hung out on skins for a week-long cold soak to, "draw out florals and really embrace the phenolics before pressing."

This is one of the best put together examples of this wine style you are likely to find anywhere in the country. With balance, zip and grip all in toe, this is a ripping wine.

About Mada Wines

Mada Wines sees ex-Eden Road operational winemaker Hamish Young venture out on his own for the first time.

Sourcing fruit from some great sites across the Canberra and Hilltops regions, his first releases were a smash hit and his star continues to rise.

His wines show a fresher and more modern side of NSW wine, all about vibrant fruit and ease of drinking. He looks for texture in his aromatic whites, freshness in his delightful red wines, each release sees him refine his own 'house style' a little more.

This is a Canberra producer to watch for the future. One of the new crop of Canberra which is shaking up the regional scene.

Critic Reviews

The Wine Front

"Floral perfume, fragrant, loaded with light sweet citrus and faint candy, touches of Turkish Delight. Definitively pretty. Lightly oily yet finishes with light bitterness (pleasing) and a twist of chalkiness. Fine and super refreshing, interesting too. Ticks boxes." - Mike Bennie (The Wine Front)
