About The Wine

Lethbridge main man, Ray Nadeson takes his Pinot Gris very seriously. Indeed, it would be hard to find a more 'worked' or 'crafted' Pinot Gris in this country.

His hand-picked fruit is meticulously basket pressed as whole bunches away from oxygen before being fermented with indigenous yeast in French oak barrels, it then sees extended time on lees in old barrels before being bottled without filtration.

The texture and phenolics here, abound.  If you enjoy a more voluptuous and weighty style of Pinot Gris, then Lethbridge exemplifies the style better than almost anyone.  Enjoy!

About Lethbridge Wines

Lethbridge is living proof that those pie-in-the-sky ideas you have with friends over a glass of wine can come true (if you are as talented and hard working as Ray Nadeson, Maree Collis and Adrian Thomas).

This operation is considered one of the leading lights in the 'natural wine' movement, being founded on the idea that great fruit should speak for itself.

The vineyards are grown with an organic philosophy and as little as possible is added to the wines through the winemaking process. The wines have a certain style to them, but most of all, the song of Geelong sings through the whole range.

They are fascinating and delicious all at once.

Halliday Wine Companion

"Hand-picked, whole-bunch pressed, wild yeast ferment in a 1200l foudre and stainless steel. Australian pinot gris seldom displays complexity, but here you have it. Aromas range through rose water and poached pears, grape skin and ginger, a similar suite of flavours present on the long and textured palate. Juicy, slightly astringent acidity completes the finish." - Steven Creber (Halliday Wine Companion)

"From Henty, Victoria, an excursion for Lethbridge from Geelong. It sees eight different parcels in the mix, all naturally fermented, all in oak barrels, but with skin ferments at varying time spans and other things lending character and complexity. Lots of detail, as is often the Lethbridge way. “The skin contact is a very important part of making gris, otherwise you don’t get texture, and I am looking for spice and mushroomy character, more interest than just nashi pear, let’s say”, says winemaker Ray Nadeson as we take a drag on the wine together.Blushing in the glass in a pink-salmon kind of way. Scents of brown pear, truffle, bread dough and light floral notes. The palate is amazing – slippery then finishes with light puckering dryness. Complexity, detail, and length are calling cards. One of the more complex gris you’ll see, and delivers high drinkability. Total charm." - Mike Bennie (The Wine Front)
