About This Wine
Planted in the late 19th century, Block 6 is one of the oldest heritage vineyards in Australia. Gnarly old vines produce some truly concentrated and exceptional fruit.
Serious and powerful wine here, with layer upon layer of complexity to it. Perfumed florals, dark fruits, charcuterie and a hint of cedar. So much concentration with dark cherries, cacao and black olive, and more.
Rich and tannic right now, this is a wine that needs time to soften. The bones are there, now, it’s just a matter of some patience, for us to experience the glory of one of Australia’s greatest vineyards and wines.
About Kay Brothers
Producing wine on their McLaren Vale estate since 1895, Kay Brothers (named as you would expect for founding brothers Fred and Bert Kay), are one of the oldest producers in the Vale.
With the 3rd generation of the family now managing the business, their growth has seen then expand to a much more corporate structure, helping to preserve their heritage vineyards.
with over 100 ha under vine, they are not a small producer by any means, yet they are still connected very much to their small family origins, with many of the original buildings (now heritage listed) and equipment close to 100 years old still in operation today.

Long held in high esteem as one of McLaren Vale’s finest Shiraz plantings, Block 6 Shiraz continues the tradition at Kay Brothers of producing full bodied red wines that have the grace and pedigree to age for decades. Handpicked and fermented in the original open top fermenters, Block 6 Shiraz is a wine of great strength, deep complexity and amazing vibrancy. The Block 6 vineyard faces east and rows run north south with significant undulation.

"Stately 126 year old vines. Raised in 40% new American and French oak puncheons. One of the great wines of Australia. Savoury and rippling with ferrous and dense tannin, intense blackberry and boysenberry flavour, nutty oak, black olives and dried herb. Acidity is firm and pretty zesty, but sits inside the wine well enough, and again the umami almost porcini mushroom flavours through deep black fruit. Finish is all tannin, earthiness, frozen berries and super length. It’s a powerhouse vintage, and demands cellaring." 95+ pts Gary Walsh (Wine Front)
"Fine boned. Powerful, sure, but there is a stridency to the fruit rather than a stolidness. Maritime shiraz, at its best, has a cooler side to violet, bergamot, boysenberry, anise and clove scents. Warehouse Pickupis available from our Sydney warehouse in Ultimo, 2007. Just select Local Pickup at checkout. We are open 8am to 4pm, Monday to Friday.

Do I have to order in dozens? No, please mix it up! You can order wines in any quantity and variation you like. You can order 1 bottle or 50. We challenge you to make the ultimate mixed pack of wine!
Are there volume discounts? No, our pricing is designed to be the best in market already - no marking up and then discounting down! For very large orders (weddings, etc) we are open to negotiating though. Just give us a call.
Do we price match? Yes, within reason. Everyday low & consistent pricing is something we strongly believe in. We want our customers to feel confident they are always getting the best price. If you see a price lower somewhere else let us know and we'll consider matching it. We'll even retrospectively issue you store credit if you have already purchased from us but you see a lower price somewhere later on. Our price match policy can be seen here.
Can coupons and discounts be stacked? No, only one discount or coupon can be applied to an order at once.
I am trying to add more of a wine to my cart but it won’t let me? This means we are running low on stock of that wine. So for example, if the website will only allow you to add 3 bottles and no more, then that is all we have of that particular wine. The good news is we may be able to order more for you. Just contact us on 02 8376 8775 or hello@differentdrop.com and we'll organise the additional quantity for you.
Does Different Drop have a physical store? No. Just an a warehouse/office. We occasionally do events however, so sign up to our newsletter or follow us on instagram to stay in the loop.
Can I special order a wine you do not sell? If it’s doable, then we’ll make it happen. Just contact us directly via phone, chat or email and we’ll find out for you right away. Please note that in most cases special orders such as these will need to be in full case lots (6 or 12 bottles).
