About The Wine

The Entity is John Duval's attempt to craft more elegant rendition of Barossa Shiraz that stays true to regional expression.

The fruit is selected from great old vineyards across a variety of the Barossa and Eden Valley's sub-regions, Duval looking for balance and a more controlled version of Shiraz - something he became famous for during his days as Head Winemaker for Penfolds.

The 2018 looks in career-best form. Duval is saying that the wines from 2018 could be "amongst the best in living memory.". This is the sort of wine that forms the cornerstone of a cellar. A classic wine that you can bank on for a minimum of a decade given the right conditions.

About John Duval

John Duval is an international winemaking legend, and one of our country's bonafide wine superstars. For 29 years he was a winemaker (16 years as chief) at Barossa Valley winery Penfolds, and was responsible during that time for putting together Grange and his signature wine, the RWT.

For the last decade plus, Duval has spent his time traversing the globe, making high-quality wines in Europe, the North-West of the USA and even Chile. But his love remains the Barossa Valley, with his private label wines representing a chance to try some stunning wines at very reasonable prices.

Now with his own label (established in 2003) in full-flight and his son Tim stepping into the family business, John's legacy as one of the Barossa Valley's finest winemakers of his generation continues to grow.

From The Producer

Following the pattern of recent years, the preceding winter rainfalls were above average followed by slightly drier conditionsthrough spring. Warmer than average conditions through October and November promoted healthy canopies, good floweringand a healthy set of bunches. Very dry conditions through summer tested the growers to maintain good vineyardmanagement practices and preserve vine health, and they were rewarded with perfect ripening and harvest conditionsthroughout March and early April. Vintage concluded with 30mm of rain in mid-April which refreshed the vineyards after thedry vintage. We believe 2018 will produce many exceptional wines, with Eden Valley Shiraz, in particular, appearingamongst the best in living memory. These wines display vibrant fruit and lifted aromatics combined with depth and intensityon the palate, without being heavy.

No, please mix it up! You can order wines in any quantity and variation you like. You can order 1 bottle or 50. We challenge you to make the ultimate mixed pack of wine!

Are there volume discounts?

No our pricing is aiming to the best in the market already. For very large orders (weddings etc) we are open to negotiating though. Just give us a call. How does the price match work?

Everyday Low & Consistent Pricing is something we strongly believe in. We want our customers to feel confident they are always getting the best price. If you see a price lower somewhere else let us know and we'll match it. We'll even retrospectively refund you if you have already purchased from us but you see a lower price somewhere later on. Our price match policy can be seen here.

I am trying to add more of a wine to my cart but it won’t let me?

This means we are running low on stock of that wine. So for example, if the website will only allow you to add 3 bottles and no more, then that is all we have of that particular wine. The good news is we may be able to order more for you. Just contact us on 1300 668 385 or hello@differentdrop.com and we'll organise the additional quantity for you.

Does Different Drop have a physical store?

No, not really. More of a warehouse/office. We do however offer a Click & Collect option from our warehouse in Ultimo, Sydney. Our warehouse address for Click & Collect is: F5A, 42 Wattle St, Ultimo, 2007

Can I special order a wine you do not sell?

If it’s doable, then we’ll make it happen. Just contact us directly via phone, chat or email and we’ll find out for you right away. Please note that in most cases special orders such as these will need to be in full case lots (6 or 12 bottles).
