About The Wine
This stunning 'IJM' Pinot Noir is a tribute to Gembrook Hill founder Ian Marks. It was first produced in 2017 after his sudden death, with Ian's son and star winemaker in his own right Andrew Marks wanting to craft a premium release in Ian's honour.
2018 has also seen Andrew release a second premium release, named 'JKM' after Andrew's mother June who still works alongside Andrew. Both wines come from a small block of excellent Pinot fruit on the Gembrook Hill vineyard, and while JKM sees some extra winemaking experimentation, this wine is all about this remarkable vineyard.
The dry 2018 season has resulted in great structure, with power and complexity dancing in tandem with the natural elegance and brightness this site provides.
It's a glorious Pinot, and with just 80 dozen produced definitely one to tuck away for that special occassion.
About Gembrook Hill
Based in the cool upper reaches of the Yarra Valley, Gembrook Hill is one of the country's most loved producers of Pinot Noir.
Founded in 1983 by Ian and June Marks, Gembrook is one of the most picturesque vineyards in the region. As well as their stunning Pinot Noirs, they produce excellent examples of Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc and an elegant Blanc de Blanc in certain vintages.
Ian Marks sadly passed away in 2017. His son Andrew now tends the family vineyard and makes the wines, continuing the family legacy for producing outstanding examples of Upper Yarra wine.
