One of my Australian rieslings of the year.
About The Wine
It's hit after hit down at Garagiste HQ, and Barney Flanders has smashed another one out of the park with this stunning and original Riesling.
Mornington Peninsula isn't typically known for its Riesling but this one is out of the box. The fruit comes from 30-year-old vines, is hand-picked and whole bunch pressed to old barriques before a natural ferment and then left to rest on lees for eight months before heading to bottle. Simple yet thoughtful winemaking from Barney here yielding a wine with serious X-Factor.
Barney reckons it's "way better than Alsace". Mike Bennie simply stated, "Holy shit this is good... One of my Australian rieslings of the year.", and we're sure you're going to enjoy this thrill-a-minute and seriously well-priced Riesling!
Garagiste is the brainchild of Barnaby Flanders.
After leaving Allied Wines in 2003 he embarked on a mission to produce small batch premium Pinot Noir and Chardonnay under his own label in his beloved Mornington Peninsula.
Barney loves the sub-regionality to be exploited in Mornington Peninsula, the slight alterations in aspect and soil profile within this small wine producing region provide him with the scaffolding around which he builds his stunning harem of small batch wines.
They are only ever made in small quantities so time is of the essence if you want to explore the world of Garagiste.
