About The Wine
This is a big slice of tropical fruit and lemon cheesecake, condensed into a glass full of racy Riesling. So satisfying and succulent to drink, and the flavours persist wonderfully.
Fritz Haag is based in the lovely village of Brauneberg, with the vineyards across the river from the winer. Juffer Sonnenuhr is perhaps their most celebrated vineyard - they seem to have a penchant for sundials in the Mosel.
This is auslese level, so expect a fair amount of sweetness, but is doesn't feel cloying or syrupy in any way. An energising dessert wine.
About Fritz Haag
The Fritz Haag wine estate in the heart of the Mittel Mosel can trace its origins back to 1605.
The estate covers 18.5ha of vineyards all of which are planted to Riesling. The deep slate soils of the Brauneberger Juffer slope form the basis for some of the most intensely flavoured and elegantly-structured Riesling wines in the world..
Current guardian of their wine history, Oliver Haag, makes wines that span the sweetness and flavour spectrum, all of which reflect the dominant brown slate soils, with the calling-card minerality supporting the vibrant fruit quality. Fritz was Oliver's grandfather.
