About

About the Wine

This is good.. Punchy, dark, intense red that combines both rich sweet fruit and meaty savouriness.

Touriga (or Touriga Nacional) is Portugal's most famous red grape, and the is base wine for many great Port producers, and some big-framed table reds.

Touriga's popularity is growing in Australia but it is normally used in blends - this is rare example of single varietal Touriga.

About Frankland Estate

Frankland Estate are one of the leading producers in the Frankland River region. Family owned and operated since 1988, their major focus on their certified organically grown fruit that reflects its terroir rather than the hand of the winemaker.

Their cool climate Rieslings are regarded as some of the best in the region and the country with several single vineyard releases that could be a contender for Australia's Best Riesling.

Additional Info

From the Producer

Touriga plays well with others and is a cracking variety for blending. The 2018 vintage saw perfect conditions for ripening Touriga at Frankland Estate, so we thought this was worth capturing in bottle as a single varietal. .

Fruit for this wine was sourced from grafted vines in the Isolation Ridge vineyard at Frankland Estate. The vineyard sits on an undulating northern and eastern facing slope on ancient duplex soils of gravel and loam over a clay sub-soil. Touriga Nacional was grafted into the vineyard in 2017.

The Wine Front

Red wine in a riesling bottle. And the personality doesn’t stop there. This is a ferrous, inky, smoky red wine underpinned by red and black berry flavours but with its heart firmly set on savouriness. In fact there’s a bit of reduction here but it works in context, and then some. Barbecued meats and a bottle of this and you’d be away. It sits a smidgen above mid weight, it’s ribbed with tannin and it has complexity all sewn up. Excellent. - Campbell Mattinson (The Wine Front)

There’s some real complexity, in the spice zone, where aromas range from oregano and nutmeg, to juniper berries and spearmint. Then comes the overlay of brambleberries and dark cherries with some dark chocolate. Tobacco leaves, too. Full-bodied and juicy, but quite structured and savory on the palate. From organically grown grapes. Drink now and enjoy. - James Suckling, James Suckling.com

    Exceeded expectation

I usually have a bit of skepticism when choosing wines that are organic or natural in some way but this is a beautiful wine. Full bodied, great with food and very smooth.
