About

About The Wine

The Frankland Estate Shiraz announces itself brilliantly, thanks to the marvellous vintage conditions and the sensitive winemaking approach.

With its dark purple colour shining in the glass, you get loads of plum and raspberry characters, with a spicy edge. The flavours are bright and mouth filling, with an excellent balance between the fine tannins and vibrant acidity. The addition of several other grape varieties – even the small amount of the white grape Marsanne – gives the wine an interesting depth and aromatic complexity.

If you love ripe Shiraz and are looking for something different to the usual regions, then this Frankland Estate Shiraz delivers the goods.

About Frankland Estate

Frankland Estate are one of the leading producers in the Frankland River region. Family owned and operated since 1988, their major focus is on certified organically grown fruit that reflects its terroir rather than the hand of the winemaker.

Their cool climate Rieslings are regarded as some of the best in the region and the country with several single vineyard releases that could be a contender for Australia's Best Riesling.

Frankland Estate is cutting a mean wave through the industry and picking up a lot of recognition in the process.

Additional Info

From the Producer

This Frankland Estate Shiraz was harvested in 2018 – one of the great vintages in the last 30 years, particularly for Shiraz. A wet spring provided good early vine growth followed by a cooler than average January and February. Some rain in January set the vines up nicely for the ideal dry finish we received. The summer cooled considerably in early March slowing ripening of the Shiraz and providing fruit clarity and depth of flavour.

This wine was fermented as long and slowly as possible, at temperatures not exceeding 28˚C in open fermentation tanks that allowed the cap to be worked by gentle plunging. An extended maceration period followed completion of the ferment to allow optimal texture and flavour extraction. It was aged for 14 months in 500-litre French oak puncheons and stainless steel tanks.

"Lovely shiraz, bit of a treat. Graphite, clove, dark chocolate and ripe black cherry. Both dry and generous at once. Sweet-fruited and savoury. Nuanced. Flows effortlessly but there’s tannin here too. Medium-weight in a good way. All those things." Campbell Mattinson (The Wine Front)
