If I see his name on a wine list, I don't give it a second thought and simply order his wine.
About The Wine
This single vineyard offering from Dureuil-Janthial comes from Maizieres, a sunny and comparatively warm lieu-dit planted to both Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. The unique power and outstanding quality of the Chardonnay means it is bottled as a stand alone release.
This wine has power, grace and detail, a combination generally reserved for the more prestigious Burgundy appellations of the Cote d'Or.
There is tension and phenolic grip with plush fruit to soften the landing. Its really quite something and in the context of Burgundy pricing, it is exceptional value.
About Domaine Vincent Dureuil-Janthial
Van-son Doo-rey Jon-tea-ahl. Yes, it's a mouthful but this is a name you should get to know. Dureuil-Janthial are widely recognised as the finest estate in Rully and, whilst relatively unknown here, they have a long and loyal following of Burgundian growers who turn to their wines at every opportunity. >
Rully is just 15 minutes south of Cote de Beaune, Dureuil-Janthial have small, but outstanding, holdings, spread across the village. The viticulture is organic and guided by biodynamics and in the winery a kid glove and attention to detail is paramount. Practises common in the greatest appellations of Burgundy are standard here and that sets these wines apart from Rully at large.
Our advice? don't worry about the long name or the vineyards you've not heard of. Don't even worry which cuvee you go for, take a leaf out of Coche's book, and drink these wines as often as you can. It won't be very often given the volumes, but you'll be glad when you do.
