About the Wine
What do you get when you mix Old World dedication to quality and avant-garde wine making? There are a few answers, surely, but this wine would have to be one of them. The fruit is sourced from organic and biodynamic vineyards, saw 15 days skin contact and time in old barrels - it is the very definition of interest-packed drinking.
"Hors Piste" translates as "off road," so you know you're in for a journey here. The wine has a lovely viscosity to it - it coats the glass and the mouth - and carries flavours of cranberries, dried blossoms, citrus and nectarine. There is a splash of sea spray and musk to it too, giving excellent savoury complexity. It may not be the most typical example of Alsatian wine, but it's certainly one of the most delicious. Sante!
About Domaine Rohrer
The Rohrer family is eight generations deep into wine growing in the Alsace. Today, Ludovic Rohrer presides over 8 hectares of vineyards in and around the Mittelbergheim area in the north of the region.
Continuing from both his father Andre and his grandfather who started working with natural methods as far back as the 60s, Ludo's vines are farmed according to both certified organic and biodynamic methods.
Working naturally in the cellar with no filtration and no added sulphur, these are pure, vibrant and expressive Alsace wines, to be sought out and savoured.
