About The Wine

The "Maurice" is a new cuveé in the Domaine Marc Delienne line up this year.

The wine is named for the previous owner of the property that Marc grows his wines from in Fleurie.

It's fermented semi-carbonically, allowing plenty of primary fruit to shine throught as well as plenty of stucture to be extracted.

It's the moddier, broodier expression from this vintage with more smaoke and mineral character. It's classic Beaujolais with a little wildness in its eye.

About Domaine Marc Delienne

At the ripe old age of 56, Marc Delienne made an incredible sea (or vine) change.

He left his life in Paris working in IT & banking and moved himself to Beaujolais. In 2015 he purchased Château de l’Abbaye Saint Laurent d’Arpayé in the centre of Fleurie. Mentored by the likes of Alain Graillot and Eloi Dürrbach at Domaine Trévallon in Provence, he came to town with the fiery passion of a man many years his junior.

A conversion of his 40-80-year-old vines to organic farming was immediate. A vat room was built in short order. Gorgeous, elegant wines made with meticulous attention to detail emerged in what seemed like no time at all.

Now entering his sixth decade on this planet, Marc thinks of himself as a young winemaker, and well he might. His wines have the edginess and energy that you would associate with the finest vanguard producers in the French wine community today.

From The Producer

These Vines were planted 40 to more than 80 years ago, with a density of 10,000 vines/hectare (2.5 acres), on mainly sandy or sandy loam soils stemmed from primary rocks (granite) or ancient alluvium, covered by sometimes a dense layer of pebbles of low to average depth. Here, pruning is done using the traditional goblet method, even though the vines are trained to significantly increase their height. Regular tillage, albeit shallow, a special care given to seasonal plants and biodynamic cultivation are key features of the culture of the domain.

The grapes are processed as delicately and as naturally as possible. Concrete vats are filled with whole crops, after thorough screening, with no yeasting nor chaptalisation. Daily pumping over is kept to a minimum so as not impose excessive extraction. The fermentation of skins is brief, and most wines are put into extra-large wine barrels (foudres) right after the pressing is done.

"Strong sous bois, red berry, dried herb vibe here. Squirts across the palate, shapely, svelte, dark berry-cherry, earthy notes, smoke, old flowers, blood and dried herbs. Really good, old school, good school, but pure fruit vibe. Mainlines a lot of character. Deeper, brooding style." - Mike Bennie (The Wine Front)

No, please mix it up! You can order wines in any quantity and variation you like. You can order 1 bottle or 50. We challenge you to make the ultimate mixed pack of wine!

Are there volume discounts?

No our pricing is aiming to the best in the market already. For very large orders (weddings etc) we are open to negotiating though. Just give us a call. How does the price match work?

Everyday Low & Consistent Pricing is something we strongly believe in. We want our customers to feel confident they are always getting the best price. If you see a price lower somewhere else let us know and we'll match it. We'll even retrospectively refund you if you have already purchased from us but you see a lower price somewhere later on. Our price match policy can be seen here.

I am trying to add more of a wine to my cart but it won’t let me?

This means we are running low on stock of that wine. So for example, if the website will only allow you to add 3 bottles and no more, then that is all we have of that particular wine. The good news is we may be able to order more for you. Just contact us on 1300 668 385 or hello@differentdrop.com and we'll organise the additional quantity for you.

Does Different Drop have a physical store?

No, not really. More of a warehouse/office. We do however offer a Click & Collect option from our warehouse in Ultimo, Sydney. Our warehouse address for Click & Collect is: F5A, 42 Wattle St, Ultimo, 2007

Can I special order a wine you do not sell?

If it’s doable, then we’ll make it happen. Just contact us directly via phone, chat or email and we’ll find out for you right away. Please note that in most cases special orders such as these will need to be in full case lots (6 or 12 bottles).
