About The Wine

The Blanc Etc.. was the cuvee previously called Blanc de Pouilly Fume. Louis-Benjamin Dagueneau had an ongoing beef with the local authorities and he has now completely withdrawn from the appellation system, so all reference to Pouilly Fume has been removed from the Domaine's labels! They are all Vin de France... the lowest level of the pyramid.

It is the most accessible and early-drinking of Dagueneau's wines, and is the only non-soil or vineyard-specific expression, being a blend of fruit from four different sites, that were fermented in a mix of new and old barrels and then matured in both wood and steel.

It's a vibrant, stunningly-expressive wine, racy and pure with some leesy creaminess.

About Domaine Didier Dagueneau

Was there ever a more mythical iconoclastic figure in the world of wine than the late, great Didier Dagueneau?

A professional motorcycle racer in a former life, Dagueneau took the village of Saint Andelain like a hurricane in 1982. As an untrained hand in growing grapes or making wine, he set about crafting what are now considered the most intense, chiselled and now, sought-after Sauvignon Blancs on the planet.

His wines gained notoriety for their piercing minerality, mind-warping length and kaleidoscopic complexity. They transcended the varietal characters of Sauvignon Blanc, mature majestically and have reframed for many the potential for the variety to convey terroir with the utmost transparency. The term 'cult figure' doesn't really do him justice.

Sadly, he passed away in 2008 but his son Louis-Benjamin and daughter Charlotte have continued their father's exacting standards and the wines continue to redefine the possibilities for Sauvignon Blanc's potential to make some of the world's greatest white wines.

From The Importer

He’s a chip off the old silex. If there were any doubts surrounding the succession of this remarkable Estate, they have been emphatically quashed by the recent releases under the custodianship of Didier’s talented son Louis-Benjamin. Benjamin – as he is typically known - has now made three vintages since his father passed away and they have all been exceptional. 2008 and 2010 where, in our opinion, every bit the equal of Didier’s finest years.

It is Pouilly Fumé and Sancerre that set the global benchmark for Sauvignon Blanc. Didier Dagueneau crusaded for his idea of authentic Pouilly Fumé. He knew that healthy fruit from low yielding, old vines produces the purest, most intense and vibrantly fresh wine. Domaine Dagueneau's self imposed yield limit of 45 hectolitres per hectare has everything to do with his wines not being 'typical' of the appellation. A creamy texture replaces raw acidity; mineral flavours combine with exotic fruits. The two signature wines, Silex and Pur Sang rank amongst the great white wines of the world. They are in a dimension beyond being merely outstanding Sauvignon Blanc.
