About

About The Wine

The Steven Vineyard Shiraz is one of Mike De Iuliis' pride and joys.

This historic vineyard site was planted back in 1968 on the famous red soils that produce some of the Hunter's most iconic red wines. With complete respect for the vineyard, Mike handles this gently all the way to bottle hoping to showcase the exquisite medium-bodied Shiraz that this vineyard produces. Oak is used judiciously, fruit quality placed front and centre for all to see.

It's a wine that's ready to drink now but will continue to evolve for up to a decade in the cellar.

About De Iuliis

De Iuliis - pronounced [de uli ~ iss] - are one of the brightest stars from the Hunter Valley.

Owners Joss and Anna De luliis first planted vines on their estate in the famous Lovedale sub-region back in 1990, but it wasn’t until their son Mike got involved after graduating from the world-renowned Roseworthy campus (Adelaide University) in 1999 that things really took off.

Today Mike crafts an excellent array of site-specific wines that are a very good modern representation of what the Hunter Valley has to offer.

Additional Info

From The Producer

The historic Steven vineyard was planted in 1968. Ever since the red volcanic soils have produced some of the Hunter Valley’s most outstanding wines. This 2018 vintage is a classic Hunter Valley shiraz, with great fruit, spice and elegance. A medium bodied shiraz that will drink well as a young wine but will reward those patient enough to stash it away for another 10 - 15 years.

Deep crimson with purple hues. Intense spice and pepper on the nose combine with rich berry aromas. Rich fruit flavours of black cherries combine with firm tannins to provide a full-bodied style with great length on the palate. A well-balanced wine, consistent with the classic Hunter Valley style of Shiraz.

Blend : Shiraz (100%)
ABV : 14.50%
Closure : Screw Cap
Drink Until : 2030

Halliday Wine Companion

"The Steven Vineyard was planted on red volcanic soil in '68, and rapidly gained a reputation it will never lose. Mike De Iuliis is a talented winemaker with a very good palate and hasn't missed the opportunity with this wine, its slippery, medium-bodied palate full of bright blackberry and dark cherry fruit, and a faint touch of fresh Hunter Valley dirt." - James Halliday (Halliday Wine Companion)
