About The Wine

Here's a wine that perfectly represents the energy and drive the COS wines have become known for.

It takes two of Sicily's hero red varieties: Frappato & Nero d'Avola and takes them into fresh and frisky territory.

The fruit is picked with freshness and acidity as the focal point as opposed to the richer, black-fruited Nero etc that Sicily is well known for. This is all red fruit, spice and florals with a real sense of tension and minerality underlying the whole picture.

It's a terrific wine. Flighty, nervy and persistant. Dive in.

About COS

Founded in 1980, by Giambattista Cilia, Giusto Occhipinti, and Cirino Strano, COS (an acronym formed from their surname initials) is considered one of the benchmark producers of the Vittoria appellation in Sicily.

Today, Giusto Occhipinti is the main man at the head of this revered winery which dates back to the 1880s. Occhipinti constructs his wines entirely around creating pure, unadorned expressions of his precious old vineyard.

Farmed organically and biodynamically since the 1980s, these vines in the deep south of Sicily thrive in the hot, dry climate. Using a combination of clay amphora, concrete, and old, large botti, Giusto mainlines the unique character of his site into a fascinating collection of fresh, complex reds and extraordinary skin contact amber wines.

These are natural wines of rare complexity and energy and rightfully some of the most respected in the region today.

The Wine Advocate

"The 2016 Cerasuolo di Vittoria Classico is a very nice wine that shows a smooth texture and a delicate approach that grows in intensity. There are small-berry aromas with cassis, wild raspberry and dried blueberry, which would spruce up any pasta like a Sicilian pasta alla Norma. A blend of 40% Frappato and 60% Nero d'Avola aged in oak barrels for 12 months, the wine is delicate and smooth, with tiny steps that go the long haul. The tannins are well integrated and give the wine a firm, upstanding backbone. Some 83,000 bottles were made." - Monica Larner (Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate)
