About the Wine
The first Byrne Chardonnay to be made using fruit from Geelong. The vineyard is planted on an east facing slope of the Moorabool Valley, north of Geelong, and the mature vines benefit from limestone soils and moderate temperatures.
The wine shows mineral and citrus characters on the nose, with light nectarine on the palate and firm natural acid balanced by a hint of oak spice
Having made wine under his eponymous Byrne Wines label since 2011 while also working as assistant winemaker at Lethbridge, 2015 saw Alex step out on his own to focus on his myriad of personal winemaking projects.
What started as a focus on single vineyard wines from Ballarat, Alex has now broadened his range, and produces elegant and complex Chardonnay, Pinot, and Shiraz from cool-climate regions across Victoria, which highlight the quality of their origins, and the talents of the winemaker.
