About the Wine
The 'Viernes' Mencia is an assemblage of young vineyard plots fermented and aged entirely in tank - no oak treatment to mask the spicy, peppery red fruit characteristics.
Palate flows soft and smooth, with an earthy, gamey feel to the finish.
About Bodegas Godelia
Godelia is a fascinating combination of the modern and the old, combining ancient hillside plantings of Mencia and Godello, with younger vineyard sites that reflect the regeneration of post-Franco agricultural Spain.
Vicente Garcia Vasquez took over the project in 2009 and coined the name 'Godelia' a linguistic mix of Godello and Lias (meaning lees). Beautifully located in the Bierzo region, on the mountainous border dividing Galicia from the rest of Spain, his near 50 ha of new and old plantings are creating delicious energetic wines.
The famous walking trail Camino de Santiago goes pretty much past their front door, if ever you are a tired and thirsty pilgrim.
