A vintage heralded for its power and depth of flavour, the 2018s will go down as one of the best of the decade.
The Savigny-les-Beaune is possibly the best value of the village level Pinot Noirs showing the power and sophistication not far off many 1er reds in the region.
This offers gorgeous drinking now and will cellar beautifully for the next decade or more.
About Benjamin Leroux
Burgundian native Benjamin Leroux is one of the brightest minds and winemaking talents of his generation.
Considered a winemaking prodigy from an early age, Leroux attended the Lycée Viticole in Baune at the tender age of 13. Then, at the age of just 26, he ascended to the roles of manager and winemaker in the famed cellars of Domaine Comte Armand - a remarkable vote of confidence in one so young.
In 2007 he launched his eponymous label to wide critical acclaim. His has been a meteoric rise through the ranks of Burgundy's producers. His incisive modern approach to winemaking combined with his deep knowledge and respect for tradition has seen his small, hand-crafted cuveés coveted by collectors across the world.
These wines speak eloquently of where they come from. A legend in the making, Leroux's wines are some of the most exciting in modern-day Burgundy.

Those who attended our recent Zoom masterclass would have heard Benjamin waxing lyrical about his 2018 Savigny, and the excellent quality of the villages wines in general. They would have also tasted this wine and so seen the proof in the glass. The lion’s share of this vintage comes from the outstanding Aux Fournaux terroir in the north of the village. Then there’s Les Peuillets (in the south) and Ez Connardises (in the heart of the village), to make up the traditional trio of parcels. While the latter plots were de-stemmed, the Aux Fournaux parcel was fermented with 80% whole-bunch (a rarity in Leroux Savigny). The entire cuvée saw next to no new oak.
It’s a remarkably deep and powerful wine in the context of Savigny, with blackcurrant, cocoa and some red cherry too. The finish is bright with powdery tannins. Always a bargain, it is particularly so this year. I believe the extra aging has brought more depth than suggested by the note below.

"Spice and earth, ripe cherry, a little mint and perfume, hazelnut too. Medium-bodied, attractive chewiness to tannin through juicy cherry, soft acidity but with a distinct ‘mineral’ feel, and again fleshy tannin on an ample finish, a slight orange flavour in the aftertaste. Do I have to order in dozens? No, please mix it up! You can order wines in any quantity and variation you like. You can order 1 bottle or 50. We challenge you to make the ultimate mixed pack of wine!
Are there volume discounts? No, our pricing is designed to be the best in market already - no marking up and then discounting down! For very large orders (weddings, etc) we are open to negotiating though. Just give us a call.
Do we price match? Yes, within reason. Everyday low & consistent pricing is something we strongly believe in. We want our customers to feel confident they are always getting the best price. If you see a price lower somewhere else let us know and we'll consider matching it. We'll even retrospectively issue you store credit if you have already purchased from us but you see a lower price somewhere later on. Our price match policy can be seen here.
Can coupons and discounts be stacked? No, only one discount or coupon can be applied to an order at once.
I am trying to add more of a wine to my cart but it won’t let me? This means we are running low on stock of that wine. So for example, if the website will only allow you to add 3 bottles and no more, then that is all we have of that particular wine. The good news is we may be able to order more for you. Just contact us on 02 8376 8775 or hello@differentdrop.com and we'll organise the additional quantity for you.
Does Different Drop have a physical store? No. Just an a warehouse/office. We occasionally do events however, so sign up to our newsletter or follow us on instagram to stay in the loop.
Can I special order a wine you do not sell? If it’s doable, then we’ll make it happen. Just contact us directly via phone, chat or email and we’ll find out for you right away. Please note that in most cases special orders such as these will need to be in full case lots (6 or 12 bottles).
