About the Wine
Son of Jean Foillard, famed producer of great modern Beaujolais, Alex is a young man already producing wines well beyond his modest mid-twenties.
Worldly, travelled and curious to further explore the region under his own label, his Brouilly (pron. brew-ee) comes from 50-year-old vines which he farms following organic principles. Sensitive ageing in a mix of concrete and old oak barrels reveals the depth of this fruit.
This is generous, structured and joyful, with an appealing fleshiness, tempered by notes of cut flower stems and cinnamon spice. A great example of the rewards awaiting faithful followers of this region.
About Alex Foillard
Alex Foillard, son of Beaujolais legend Jean Foillard, made the first wine under his label at twenty-five years old.
With roughly a hectare each in the crus of Brouilly and Côte-de-Brouilly, Alex successfully diversified the Foillard cellars, until then full of Morgon along with the odd barrel of Fleurie.
The wines have a seductive aromatic component, a silky texture, and a downright deliciousness that is unmistakably Foillard.
