Tete de Cuvee is a french term used to describe a winery's top release - the pride of the estate. To continue the french them, this is Adrian Rodda's paean to Bordeaux, a Cabernet Sauvignon blend that also features Merlot and a touch of Petit Verdot.

It's Australian Cabernet of high order, though firm and proud currently, and needing to cellar. Poised and dense, bathing in chocolate and blackcurrant flavours and held in check by ripe but potent tannins. The fruit source is the Smith's Vineyard, planted in 1978.

It's a first release, and a partner wine to the similarly excellent Triangle Block Chardonnay. Stash some in the cellar.

Sourced from the Smith’s Vineyard in Beechworth, fruit was selected from the top 10 rows of the North-East facing Cabernet Sauvignon block and the small, low yielding Merlot block. In the best growing seasons, the resulting blend is elevated to the Tête de Cuvée release. Hand picked fruit was destemmed and crushed prior to fermentation whereby a combination of pump-overs, rack and returns and plunging was utilized for cap management. Post-fermentation, the Cabernet Sauvignon was held on skins for a further 18 days. The wines were pressed to French oak barriques consisting of 50% first use and 50% second use. After 12 months, the wines were racked to old 600 litre thick stave oak casks for a further 8 months prior to bottling. The 2018 Tête de Cuvée consists of Cabernet Sauvignon (74%), Merlot (24%) and Petit Verdot (2%).

94 Points - "75/24/2% cabernet sauvignon /merlot/petit verdot. Hand-picked fruit, destemmed and crushed, held on skins for 18 days, pressed to French oak barriques (50% new) for 12 months then racked to old 600L oak casks for a further 8 months. Tête de Cuvée refers to a wine of the highest quality. Celebrating a top vintage with a new reserve wine, it is unusual (and quietly exciting) to see a quality cabernet blend out of Beechworth. Offers a tight-knit wine, a mere youngster still, firm in dry, grainy tannins, smart oak and serious, dark fruit flavours. It’s varietally on point, well balanced and assured of a big future." - Jeni Port (Halliday Wine Companion)

93 Points - "Deepish red/purple colour, with a subdued and gently earthy bouquet, strong on the savoury side of the aromatic ledger, the flavour similar with drying powdery, earthy tannins and a quite forceful grip. Deep-seated dark berry, briar and char-oak notes. It's tightly focused and elegant along the palate. Very good and better if cellared a while." - Huon Hooke (The Real Review)

A. Rodda

Adrian's Beechworth-based winery is essentially a one-man operation with some help from acclaimed viticulturist, Mark Walpole.

What started as a hobby has ballooned into a full-time obsession and he has garnered some huge praise for his classic yet energetic wines.

With a wealth of experience gained under the top-notch tutelage of Yarra Valley superstar winemaker, Dave Bicknell, Adrian is one of the true stars of North East Victorian Wine.

Chardonnay (of course) is his main focus, showcasing a regional series from Beechworth, the Yarra Valley & the Whitlands but he also tackles Cabernet blends & Tempranillo with aplomb.

We want Different Drop customers to always be getting the best price. If you see a lower price elsewhere, just get in touch and we will sort it out for you. We handle all our price-matching on a case by case basis.

Some things to keep in mind:

  • Retrospective price-matching is available for 30 days after you have purchased from us.
  • The price match cannot be used in conjunction with a coupon or one-off deal we are offering. The idea is for you to get the best price in the market so if that is already achieved through a coupon then we won't price match on top of that.
  • We don't price match clearance or fire sales.
  • We’ll match the listed price as long as it is a legitimate offer and the competing store is actually able to fulfil the order (they have stock or more stock is en route). Essentially we won't price match cheeky vendors listing wines they have no hope of actually getting for you...
  • It must be a publicly listed price. We won't match a price that has been achieved through a coupon/cash-back arrangement, or through a non-advertised offer over the phone or otherwise.
  • It is limited to a reasonable retail quantity.

We'll treat each price match request on its merit and reserve the right to refuse where we deem fit. For example, particularly rare wines, from non-trust-worthy vendors, in circumstances we deem illegitimate or if we feel our policy is being unfairly taken advantage of.

At the end of the day, we'll look after you and use common sense to ensure you're getting the best price, please just don't take the p%$$!

No, feel free to mix it up! There is no minimum requirement. You can order wines in any quantity or combination, 1 or 50+ bottles.

We stock three different sized gift boxes (single, three bottle and six), all are available for purchase for a flat rate of $8. They look great and make an awesome impression.

To add a gift box to your order, simply add at checkout. The special requests box is your friend, please give us as many details of what you are looking for and we will try our best, or get in contact to discuss it with you.

If you want to bulk order gifts or if you have any trouble please email hello@differentdrop.com or call and we can try and help.

If you can't add more wine to your cart it means we are low on stock of that wine. For example, if you are only able to 3 bottles and no more that means we only have 3 bottles left of that wine. If it's a must have, please contact us and we may be able to order more in for you.
