Description

The Dry Red No. 2 from the great Yarra Yering vineyard is a unique look at Yarra Valley Shiraz.

Yarra Yering founder, Dr. Bailey Carrodous,  was inspired by the great blends of the Rhone Valley when he first conceived this wine.

It's predominantly Shiraz with Mataro, Viognier & Marsanne blended in for enhanced complexity.

It's a vibrant yet eminently cellar-worthy style of Shiraz and one of the most collected in the country.

The balance of the 2017 is impeccable. It received 99 points from James Halliday and will mature majestically for decades to come.

Fruit was hand-picked, bunch sorted and destemmed directly to the Yarra Yering half-tonne open-fermenters. As much whole berry as possible is retained to encourage perfume. Some stalks were added back to some of the fermenters in order to contribute structure and aroma.A portion of fermenters had frozen Viognier skins added to the bottom, some with Marsanne skins. The wine was aged for 12 months in French oak barriques, 30% new before blending and bottling.

99 Points - "Follows Bailey Carrodus's method of co-fermenting small amounts of viognier, marsanne adding floral notes, and mataro adding spice. It's another exquisite wine from '17, capturing all the senses immediately you assess the bouquet and palate. It's only just into medium-bodied territory, but it's mouthwatering in its intensity, red fruits flying high like a gaudy scarlet kite." - James Halliday (Halliday Wine Companion)

95 Points - "To get the pejoratives out of the way, oak is a little overt and the wine pulls up a little shorter than expected, but the shape, detail, complexity, personality, elevate the wine beyond those footnotes. Scents of dark cherry, woody spice, new leather, floral things, white pepper. Lovely fragrance. The palate shows fine, shapely tannin, a little gritty but holding the wine to a lithe medium weight. There’s flavoursome dark fruit characters, spice, earthy notes too. Indeed, the textural experience is superb, and I could dive into that long and true. Yarra Yering is one of the most iconic wineries of the modern Yarra Valley.

Founded in 1969 by the visionary vigneron Dr. Bailey Carrodous, Yarra Yering has become a benchmark in quality and one of the most collected wineries in the country.

From this small patch of earth in the North of the Gruyere sub-region, Dr. Carrodous produced these legendary wines for more than three decades. In the process becoming recognised as one of the most influential winemakers in the Yarra's history.

Today, the wines are crafted by the talented Sarah Crowe. She brings the wines to bottle with the same passion and attention to detail that made the great Yarra Yering wines of old so revered.

Ordering

We want Different Drop customers to always be getting the best price. If you see a lower price elsewhere, just get in touch and we will sort it out for you. We handle all our price-matching on a case by case basis.

No, feel free to mix it up! There is no minimum requirement. You can order wines in any quantity or combination, 1 or 50+ bottles.

We stock three different sized gift boxes (single, three bottle and six), all are available for purchase for a flat rate of $8. They look great and make an awesome impression.

To add a gift box to your order, simply add at checkout. The special requests box is your friend, please give us as many details of what you are looking for and we will try our best, or get in contact to discuss it with you.
