About The Wine

The Tolpuddle Chardonnay has quickly become one of Tasmania's most sought-after Chardonnay releases.

This stunning vineyard in the south of Tasmania in the Coal River Valley is set on a continuous slope facing North-East, the ideal locale for producing top-class, premium versions of Burgundian grapes.

The Chardonnay from 2017 is possibly the best release so far by winemaker Adam Wadewitz.

The fruit marginally riper than previous releases, the wine tightly wound and impeccably balanced.

Another outstanding release from this special vineyard.

About Tolpuddle

On an expedition to Tasmania in 2011, Martin Shaw and Michael Hill Smith MW purchased a stunning vineyard in the Coal River Valley which they thought had the potential to make some of the finest Pinot Noir and Chardonnay in the region.

Tolpuddle is now one of Tasmania’s most talked about vineyards, producing wines of blistering precision and finesse which have received rave critical acclaim.

They are highly sought-after and are some of the finest examples of these varieties that can be found anywhere on the Apple Isle.

These are premium wines that should be savoured.

White stonefruit, grapefruit, almond gloss and a puff of smoke. A gentle milkiness and quartz-like minerality. Truly epic length, the finish runs for days. So slender, so taut, such a scintillating Chardonnay. - Different Drop Wine Team

Halliday Wine Companion

"This is one of Australia's most exciting vineyards. Many Tasmanian chardonnay producers struggle in managing acidity, Tolpuddle simply makes it an essential part of the wine, serving to highlight to highlight the nectarine, white peach and grapefruit flavours. Likewise, oak is an incidental part, serving to delicately frame the fruit." - James Halliday (Halliday Wine Companion)

Australian Wine Review

"Last year’s wine was exquisitely pure and finessed, this years version is bolder, with less whipped butter and more butterscotch. It’s probably a better wine too. Complexity is the key – a second glass gives a mandarin tang and the oak is cleverly understated, with a medium bodied, delicate, acid-shaped style that takes more from Chablis than Montrachet (sorry for the French benchmark cliche), Again, a perfectly formed cool climate Chardonnay of the top echelon (and so refreshing), if still a little on the lean side.Best drinking: I’d prefer to drink it next year, when that sprightly acid folds in more. Then it will hold for at least five years after, probably more. 18.7/20, 95/100. 13%, $73. Would I buy it? 1er Cru quality Chardonnay, for half the price. A no-brainer." - Andrew Graham (Australian Wine Review)

"Lime, ruby red grapefruit, almond, some green herb character. Light but delivering plenty of juicy flavour and flinty crunch, green olive, fine-boned, good energy and zesty feel. Subtle cheesy savoury elements, lime and rind on a long and chalky finish. Better again with a couple of years on it, as they tend to be." - Gary Walsh (The Wine Front)

No, please mix it up! You can order wines in any quantity and variation you like. You can order 1 bottle or 50. We challenge you to make the ultimate mixed pack of wine!

Are there volume discounts?

No our pricing is aiming to the best in the market already. For very large orders (weddings etc) we are open to negotiating though. Just give us a call. How does the price match work?

Everyday Low & Consistent Pricing is something we strongly believe in. We want our customers to feel confident they are always getting the best price. If you see a price lower somewhere else let us know and we'll match it. We'll even retrospectively refund you if you have already purchased from us but you see a lower price somewhere later on. Our price match policy can be seen here.

I am trying to add more of a wine to my cart but it won’t let me?

This means we are running low on stock of that wine. So for example, if the website will only allow you to add 3 bottles and no more, then that is all we have of that particular wine. The good news is we may be able to order more for you. Just contact us on 1300 668 385 or hello@differentdrop.com and we'll organise the additional quantity for you.

Does Different Drop have a physical store?

No, not really. More of a warehouse/office. We do however offer a Click & Collect option from our warehouse in Ultimo, Sydney. Our warehouse address for Click & Collect is: F5A, 42 Wattle St, Ultimo, 2007

Can I special order a wine you do not sell?

If it’s doable, then we’ll make it happen. Just contact us directly via phone, chat or email and we’ll find out for you right away. Please note that in most cases special orders such as these will need to be in full case lots (6 or 12 bottles).
